The main function of the lungs is the process of gas exchange called respiration (or breathing). In respiration, oxygen from incoming air enters the blood, and carbon dioxide, a waste gas from the metabolism, leaves the blood. A reduced lung function means that the ability of lungs to exchange gases is reduced. Lung inflammation (pneumonitis) is caused by mucus, exposure to airborne toxins, COPD, infections, and diseases like asthma or bronchitis. Symptoms of inflamed lungs include wheezing, breathing problems, and chest pain and tightness, so whether it is a cold, co-vid, bronchitis, asthma, lung cancer, or pneumonia it all starts with 1 common cause and that cause is mucus.
